VILLAGE COVENANTFOUNDATION

Mobile, Alabama · Beginning on the Gulf Coast

The village begins with you.

Someone once stood in the gap for you. A grandmother, a pastor, a teacher, a neighbor who would not let you fall. The Village Covenant Foundation exists so the next generation of Black families has that same village, and so the people who made it can help rebuild it.

Restoring People · Rebuilding Communities · Sustaining Legacy

The Village Covenant Foundation seal: a tree sheltering families, with homes behind them and a gold path leading forward.

Our story begins with yours

Every person who made it was carried by a village.

The village was never a place. It was a covenant among neighbors that each generation would leave the next one stronger. Look back at your own life and you will find it.

If you were the first in your family to finish college,

you remember who paid the application fee, who drove you to campus, and who told you that you belonged there.

If you built a business or a career from nothing,

you know that someone opened a door, lent you their name, or showed you how money works when nobody else would.

If your church, your chapter or your family carried you through a hard season,

you have seen what happens when a community decides that no one gets left behind.

You already know what a village can do. Now you can be one.

The four pillars

One path, from a single life to many generations.

Lasting change begins with the revival of the individual, is multiplied by breaking generational cycles, finds its fullest expression in a restored community, and endures only when it is sealed by covenant.

  1. The individual

    The Revival

Renewing the Black man, the Black family and the Black community, with the Black church and Black-owned business at the center.

RevivalNo one has fallen too far to be restored.

  2. The family

    Breaking Cycles, Building Wealth

Financial literacy and economic empowerment, so families can own, build and keep what they create.

AccountabilityAn honest reckoning with what was broken and why.

  3. The community

    The Village We Lost

Rebuilding community infrastructure and shared life through Gather Again and Community Councils.

CommunityWe do not heal in isolation.

  4. The generations

    The Covenant of Change

The shared commitment that sustains it all: structures that last, not moments that fade.

LegacyEvery decision is measured by what it leaves the next generation.

Leadership

Leon Grove DBA

FOUNDING DIRECTOR AND CHAIRMAN

Leon Grove founded the Village Covenant Foundation on a conviction he has carried through his life as a Marine, an educator and a writer: a community can rebuild itself from within when its people commit to one another and to the generations behind them.

He is the author of The Revival: Renewal of the Black Man, Black Family, and Black Community, the work that gives the Foundation's first pillar its name.

Tax status. Village Covenant Foundation filed its application for recognition of tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) with the IRS in month and year of filing and is awaiting a determination. When an organization files within 27 months of its formation and the IRS approves the application, recognition generally applies back to the date the organization was formed. The Foundation cannot guarantee the outcome or timing of the IRS review, so we encourage you to talk with your own tax advisor about how this applies to you. We will notify every donor as soon as the determination is received.
